Homeschooling is always an adventure. The flexibility gives families to explore an enormous advantage to children! Nature studies are a fantastic addition to your routine work…and studies like my Autumn Nature Study are just plain FUN!

The process is simple. Take a journal, or even this fabulous printable nature study, outside with you for one hour every week and allow your kids to explore the world.

Nature studies lay a strong foundation for studying science and is an opportunity for children to slow down and observe. They do not need to know all the scientific facts but need to slow down to make their observations. It is always astounding to see how closely a child can observe a natural phenomenon. You will be surprised by what they see and what you have missed observing.

With observation comes hypothesis. Your child will naturally begin to form a prediction of what happens next. When they observe animals, insects, or natural phenomena, they will start to recognize patterns in nature.

Fall is a great time to get out for observation! Not only is the weather pleasant, hello cooler weather, but there are lots of observable changes happening. It makes it easier for children to mark the changes in their journals.

This printable nature study includes multiple fall-related topics!

Your children will learn about the Autumnal Equinox and study the phases of the moon. Each night they’ll go out and observe the rising of the moon to see how it changes. They’ll even watch the harvest moon phenomenon and draw it. Being able to observe and to record is an integral part of science. What great skill they will be gaining.

Seed gathering is another excellent activity included in this printable! Gathering up seeds will be a unique way to run out some energy, but they will also see how things that are alike can produce different results. After all, plants work similarly, but the way they spread their seeds is unique to each plant. Children will get to see this for themselves and even get hands-on experience with it.

Your children will also learn all about migration and many other autumn adventures!

This 56-page printable Nature Journal; Autumn, Seeds, and Migration, comes with a lot more activities! Including a migration activity, nature tracking logs, some writing opportunities, and extra fun! Print it out and let them start observing!
