3 Reasons to Use the Relaxed Holiday Unit Study

  1. Focus: In our modern times the holidays have become so busy that it’s easy to forget the true reason we celebrate. The Relaxed Holiday Unit Study will help you pause your regular schedule and focus on God, your family, and your community.
  2. Routine: Taking a few months off from all lessons can wreak havoc on a school routine. Following a relaxed holiday plan allows you to embrace the best parts of the season while maintaining the routines that keep everything running smoothly.
  3. Tracking: If you live in a state that requires you to track days and hours for school, taking the entire holiday season off can make that difficult. Following this unit study will allow you to relax and have fun as a family while meeting your obligations.

What Will You Do?

The Relaxed Holiday Unit Study is a 6 week plan that covers Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Christmas. You’re going to spend time learning God’s word, enjoying good books, focusing on on why you celebrate holidays, growing closer to each other as a family, and serving your community.

Plan Components

Scripture Memorization

Memorizing God’s word is vital for every Christian to do. It helps you grow closer to God and arms you for battle with the enemy. Not to mention that memorization in general is a good task for the mind. For the Relaxed Holiday Unit Study you will work as a family to memorize the story of Christ’s birth from Luke 2: 6-14.

Literature

The human brain is wired to learn through stories. That’s why books can touch us so deeply. Use that his holiday season to help your kids grow in character and in their understanding of the reasons we celebrate. There are two short chapter books to read over the holidays as well as two picture books each week.

Music

The holiday season is full of fabulous music. Songs that make us smile and laugh, and others that draw us closer to God. You will sing 3 classic Christian carols as a family during this unit. Each week also includes two fun songs, poems, or rhymes to enjoy.

Activities

Part of the beauty of taking a relaxed approach to school over the holidays is getting to do fun activities together as a family. At the same time, many unit studies are so crammed full of things to do that it gets overwhelming. The Relaxed Holiday Unit Study has just two regular activities each week, plus one way to serve others.

Community Service

Without a doubt, we grow closer to God as we serve others. Christmas is all about Jesus coming to earth to help people through his saving grace. While he lived here he also met the very real physical needs of others. During the Relaxed Holiday Unit Study you will live out Jesus’ example as a family by doing one act of service for others each week. They are all simple enough to do with young children, but still fun for older kids to do!
