Advent is a season of joyful expectation. Waiting is sometimes not easy, and so we’ve designed this amazing pack for you to keep your kids busy and engaged during this time of year.

Learning in Context

As homeschoolers we’re always looking for opportunities to combine subject areas, and our  The Story of Advent Printable Pack is no exception! Research has shown that children retain more when the learning takes place in context, and we believe that learning in context makes it a lot more fun, too.

Copy Work

When my girls were younger I incorporated a lot of copy work into their routine. Copy work is amazing for helping kids learn spelling, grammar, sentence structure and handwriting all in one. As a former elementary teacher, and current middle school language arts and high school English teacher, I can tell you that kids love learning in context. That is what makes unit studies so effective.

Sight Word and Spelling Practice

Our Advent pack includes spelling, grammar, and handwriting practice, all while teaching your child about the importance of the season of Advent. Your child will have a list of words to use that relate to Advent, as well as a list of important sight words.

Journaling is an essential component of learning to read and to write. You can read more about how reading and writing go hand-in-hand, and why you should incorporate both into your language arts curriculum here. Have your children start their writing in a journal from the time they start to scribble. Scribbles are writing, too!

Read Aloud

Reading your child’s journal aloud (or having your child read it aloud themselves, helps them to take ownership over their writing. This is a way of “publishing” their work. Our  The Story of Advent Printable Pack includes some journal pages, too! Have your child read aloud from his/her Advent journal and share it with the whole family. You can find out more about the importance of reading aloud here.

We hope you enjoy your The Story of Advent Printable Pack. There are more surprises inside, so be sure to download yours today!
