Stress-Free Systems to Balance Homeschooling and Homemaking

When we first started homeschooling, one of the many things that I just couldn’t wrap my mind around was how in the world I was supposed to homeschool my children AND do all the things involved in maintaining a home:

  • meal planning and cooking
  • laundry
  • cleaning
  • home upkeep
  • managing finances
  • and the list goes on and on and on….and on some more!

There just didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day for me to do all that I was supposed to do….add working a full-time job into the mix and you can see why I was ready to dissolve into a heap of tears on the floor. I just didn’t see how I could do it all..and do it well.

But, you know, eight years later, none of us have starved to death, we all wear semi-clean clothes {most of the time!}, the house is rather clean and not falling apart, our finances are in order, our homeschool journey is progressing, and I’m still relatively sane! I would call that a success!

Stress-Free Systems to Balance Homeschooling and Homemaking that WORK!

So, what changed?

Quite a few things…but it really all had to do with a perspective shift on my part. I realized {and accepted} the fact that my house didn’t have to be spotless. It didn’t have to look Pinterest perfect at all times. My kids could help with chores. The laundry basket didn’t have to be empty every single day, and taking clean clothes from the basket was totally okay! There were a few systems that we put into place that took a HUGE weight off of me and actually led to more independence in my children.

A few of the systems and resources that help me to manage my home while homeschooling include:

  • Clean Up Blitz Cards– makes clean up quick and easy…and the kids get involved too!
  • Having my days and the various areas of my life planned and organized makes me feel 100% more productive. I use my Homeschool Mom Life Binder to manage every area of my life: homeschool, homemaking, finance, meal planning, personal, fitness, and spiritual.
  • DIY Breakfast Stations* & DIY Lunch Stations– yes, my children make their own breakfast and lunch….and it’s wonderful {for me AND them!}
  • The Unorganized Mom 21-Day Organization Challenge*– YES! The name says it all…and it really does help!
  • The Homeschool Mom Fitness Program*– I am a much better homeschooling mom when I take care of myself. The fitness program allows me to work it into my day in 3-5 minute sessions a few times throughout the day. It is WONDERFUL and keeps my endorphins flowing all day long! I even get my children to join me and we count it as homeschool PE!
  • I learned how to set up systems and boundaries for working at home that allow me to be effective in all areas with The Smart Woman’s Guide to Working from Home*.

*These resources {along with 7 others} are offered in the Homemaking Bundle in this year’s Build Your Bundle sale! You can get all TEN resources for just $15 {retail value of $274.74}. Hurry- the sale ends FOREVER on 5/14/18!
