As a homeschool mom, I am ALWAYS on the hunt for materials to bring our studies to life for our children. Not only does it make our homeschooling days more fun, but it helps to keep them engaged which in turn helps them to retain the information. Literature is one of those subjects that I try super hard to make fun and exciting. I was recently introduced to LitWits. LitWits makes my task of bringing famous works of literature to life for my children EASY!

Have you heard of LitWits? Check it out…

LitWits Kits are full of fun, hands-on ways to teach great books to kids. A LitWits Kit is a digital collection of straight-from-the-story experiences. It’s packed with fun activity and prop ideas, academic handouts, projects and templates, talking points, and curated links to more – all in one place!

LitWits really helps bring books to life in a sensory way, that will keep your child intrigued and wanting to read more. We recently downloaded and started on the Anne of Green Gables Kit and I have to say I am so impressed. Teaching literature couldn’t get much easier than this, and it offers awesome hands-on projects for your child. Instead of just reading pages in a book, it helps bring it to life and your child can use their imagination to really live those moments they are reading.

With each LitWits Kit downloadable file, you get a template, activity pages and even answer keys. For each book, you will find activities that fit that book from language arts, history, music, art, and more. These resources help you to experience the story in a completely new way! We especially LOVED the A Clean Slate activity in the Anne of Green Gables kit, but our favorite aspect of the kit was the Book Bites section where we were able to “taste the story” and actually prepared a recipe from the book!

In addition to fun projects and activities, the LitWits Kit also included the following handouts:

  • Narrative Arc
  • Vocabulary
  • Setting {geography}
  • Writing {characterization}
  • Writing {essay}
  • Writing {creative}

With each kit, you will also find many links for additional learning activities associated with the book.

With 40 LitWits kits available, you are sure to find the perfect supplement to most pieces of literature. Are you intrigued? See what the founders of LitWits have to say:

We’re Becky and Jenny, sisters and founders of LitWits. Everything in a kit comes from our experiential literature workshops. In those workshops, we take kids on a sensory “field trip” inside a classic book, while weaving in academic points and handouts. Afterward, we put all our ideas and printables into a LitWitsKit, for teachers everywhere.

Now for the specifics:

LitWits kits are designed for children ages 9-12, however many of the activities are appropriate for students of all ages. My daughters are 12 and 13 and they LOVED the Anne of Green Gables LitWits kit.

Each LitWits kit is $18 and that gives you lifetime access to all kit materials. You can also opt for a monthly membership with is $9/month and gives you one FREE kit each month.
