As a mother, the most heartbreaking thought is spending all eternity without your children. One day the trump will sound, and in the twinkling of an eye, all those in Christ will be seated next to him in Glory.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Your salvation is for you and you alone; your children are given minds of their own and free will. While they are under your roof, it’s moderately easy, in most cases, to help them walk the right path and make wise choices.
But the day will come when they step out on their own, and you must trust with all certainty that the words of the Lord will not return empty — “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11
7 Prayers for Mothers to Pray Over Their Children
Pray for SALVATION — “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 Jesus, draw them to you. Give them a burning desire to call you father and believe your words are Truth. Never cease stirring in their soul.
Pray for SELF-CONTROL — “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 God, cause them to hunger for you, your words, and your ways. Grant them the courage to walk the path you would have for them and not go with the flow. Help my children learn to say “no” to the desires of the flesh.
Pray for WISDOM — “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 Make them wise Lord, wise like Moses, Abraham, David and all the ancients of the faith. Give them the patience to seek you first. Call their hearts to cherish your wisdom and not the lies of this age.
Pray for PURITY — “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.” Psalm 119:9 Let your word be the light their path and guide their ways. Give them a hunger and thirst for you. Keep their hearts pure and their minds simple and set on you. Hide your words in their hearts, Lord. So they may not sin against you.
Pray for INTEGRITY — “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” Proverbs 10:9 Set the desire to do what is right at the center of their hearts so that they will walk all the days of their lives uprightly. When they are guilty Lord, may they get caught, so they know that every action has a reaction and consequence (good or bad).
Pray for HUMILITY — “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in Humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4 Place within them a humble heart. Grant them success but help them remember that they too are a sinner saved by grace and apart from you they can do nothing. Keep their hearts far from pride, Lord.
Pray for GENEROSITY — “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way, they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
1 Timothy 6:18-19 Lord, bless them with a giant heart. Place within them the desire to share, not because they have to, but because they want to. May they always think of others first.
Pray without ceasing for your children, pray as their little souls depend upon it.
Lord, your kingdom come, and your will be done in the life of my children as it is in Heaven. Amen.
