Welcome to Day 5 of the 2017 Back to Homeschool Giveaway Extravaganza! Today’s giveaway is brought to you by FundaFunda Academy.  They are giving one lucky winner a course of their choice. If you haven’t heard of them…check it out:

What if learning could be engaging and rigorous? Fun and relevant? Enjoyable and thought-provoking?

At FundaFunda Academy we believe students will gain mastery of the subject material faster and retain what they learn for a longer time if they enjoy what they are doing.

Student involvement

Our online classes are designed to involve students in the material they are studying. Long lectures, or lengthy reading passages  followed by students regurgitating the material in boring assignments and tests will not lead to long-term retention. In fact, we keep tests and textbooks to a minimum (many of our classes don’t use tests and textbooks at all).

We assess what students have learned through interesting assignments that encourage students to really get to grips with what they are studying. They may create a graphic, or a video or even just participate in an online discussion thread.

What can you expect from our classes?

Our classes are asynchronous ie students can participate any time of the day (or night). We do have deadlines and students have to submit work on time. All work is graded by teachers or teaching assistants and feedback is provided. Most assignments can be re-submitted for better grades as we want students to succeed rather than fail.

Sometimes we create our own videos, but we also utilize the wealth of resources found on the internet – videos, infographics, interactive websites, simulations, games, podcasts and more!

Are our classes right for your family?

FundaFunda Academy caters primarily to college-bound teens who enjoy learning. If you are looking for classes your child can just rush through so you can check the box to say they have done it – then we are not a good match.

But if your teen is prepared to think and be challenged – all while having fun, take a look at what we offer. Most of our classes are for high schoolers though some full semester classes can be done by middle schoolers too. And we are slowly adding more unit study type classes for 4th-8th grade.

What you can win!

In today’s giveaway you can enter to win one of our single  semester online classes worth $139. If you win, you can choose from these 8 options:

Adobe Photoshop: This class is taught by a photography professional and lecturer who has amazing Photoshop skills.

Photography: Students need a camera that will allow you to control the aperture or shutter (or both) and will learn how to take great photos. This class is good for absolute beginners and those with some experience. Our past students have gone on to win contests and make money from photography.

Health: Imagine a health class that is actually useful. And fun. This is our intention with our brand new class.

Government: This class is offered only in the Fall. Students will learn through primary sources, videos, games, podcasts and more. They will also participate in a Congress simulation.

Economics: This class is offered only in the Spring.  Economics concepts are taught through very engaging videos, podcasts, simulations and games – including participating in the Stock Market Game.

Visual Literacy: This course intends to give student the tools to notice more of the images in their daily lives and learn how to critically engage with them. They will discuss movies, television shows, YouTube channels, music videos and look at photos, advertisements, artwork, and websites.

Scratch Programming: Scratch is a drag-and-drop language that allows students to easily create games. It is a good way to start learning about programming concepts before progressing to other languages which require users to learn the syntax.

Python Programming: Python is one of the easiest programming languages for beginners to learn. The classes will include video instruction, exercises, quizzes and programs (mainly games) to write.

To enter, simply use the Rafflecopter form below. All entries will be verified. The giveaway period will close on Thursday 8/3/17 at 11:59pm EST. The winner will be announced on Friday, 8/4/17, via email. Good luck!
