This week’s edition of Free Curriculum Friday is brought to you by my friend, Lara from Everyday Graces. She is giving each of you copies of her Twelfth Night Shakespeare complete bundle + expansion set {valued at $17}. Check it out:

Shakespeare can seem daunting. We all remember how awful that one teacher in high school made the study of The Bard. But it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, there are several awesome benefits to teaching Shakespeare to all ages!

Vocabulary. Did you know around 1,700 words we use today are credited to Shakespeare and his crafting of words? What better way to encourage your scholars than to enrich their vocabulary by studying one of his masterpieces.

Brain exercise. The language is different than what we use today, but that doesn’t make it impossible. It creates a delightful exercise in comprehension and fun talking points as you consider the meaning together.

Character and empathy. Shakespeare’s use of human character is reich, deep, and very true to life. At some point all of us have known a Caliban, an Ophelia, and a Romeo and Juliet. The understanding garnered from the study of these imaginary but life-like characters prepares students to apply both analysis and understanding to the people they will meet through their life.

To get you started on your journey, this Twelfth Night Bundle includes several copywork selections in primary, elementary, and cursive formats. Copywork helps with penmanship, memorization, and vocabulary building.

Other ways to use this copywork set:

  • Cut up the selections by line and create a puzzle to help with memorization.
  • Use the copywork selections for brief dramatic recitation
  • Use the selections and a synopsis of the play to prepare for a field trip to see the full production or a movie day at home to watch a filmed version.

This set includes the selections:

  • The Captain’s speech to Viola
  • Malvovolio’s Greatness Quote
  • Viloa’s Willow Cabin Speech
  • Duke Orsinio’s Song Request

Your Twelfth Night bundle also includes the Expansion Pack:

  • Character list and analysis notebook pages
  • Character illustration notebook pages
  • 56 vocabulary cards
