Meal Planning…it’s one of those things that we all know that we should do, but so many times we don’t take a few minutes to actually sit down and do it, so what happens?! It’s the situation we all know too well….6pm rolls around and we realize we have no plan for dinner, nor do we have the mental fortitude to quickly throw something together, so if you’re like me, you have three options: 1- cereal for dinner, 2- order a pizza, 3- pile everyone into the car and head to a restaurant. I typically resort to number 3 which leads to unhealthy food choices and completely blowing my budget.

If only I would have taken a few minutes on Sunday evening to plan our meals for the week, I could save myself so much stress AND money! Last month, I added up the total we spent on eating out and it was atrocious. So bad that I have vowed to make weekly meal plans {and actually stick to them!}. I want to encourage you to do the same! There are so many benefits of meal planning, here are just a few:

  • You save money. I’m talking big time money. The amount of money that we spend eating out when I fail to plan our meals is more than a monthly mortgage payment. It’s disgraceful. As a family of four, we average $40 per meal that we eat out. I can buy A LOT of groceries for $40!
  • You know what your family is eating. When you cook meals at home, you know exactly which ingredients you are putting into your child’s body. You don’t have this sort of control when eating out…even when you try to make healthy choices, you still can’t be sure of the ingredients.
  • Less stress! Who can honestly tell me that they don’t get stressed out when dinner time rolls around you have no plan?! The old quote “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail” comes to mind here. I feel so much more in control of my day if I know what is for dinner at the start of the day. As moms, we need to make sure we work smarter, not harder…and that is exactly what meal planning does for you.

To help you get started with meal planning, I have created a Menu Planning Binder just for busy moms like you! This amazing resource includes the following printable pages:

  • Keep track of favorite meals with Favorite Breakfasts, Favorite Lunches, and Favorite Dinners pages that give you space to record the name of the dish AND a cookbook page number and/or Pinterest board/website link.
  • Keep track of what you have on hand with Pantry Inventory, Freezer Inventory, and Refrigerator Inventory sheets.
  • Stay organized while grocery shopping with a useful categorized grocery shopping list.
  • You’ll love the Kitchen Conversions page that I have included for quick reference.
  • Beautiful recipe cards to record your favorites.
  • Weekly meal planner that includes space for you to plan breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
  • A beautiful color insert for the cover of your binder.
  • Printable spine inserts for your binder in a variety of sizes from 1 inch to 4 inch.

Putting your binder together could not be easier! Simply purchase a 3-ring binder {you choose the size that works best for you}- I chose to use a binder with a clear view cover so that I can slip in the cover page. Then, print out the pages for the Meal Planning Binder {be sure to print multiple copies of the pages you’ll use the most}, punch holes in the pages, and insert them into your binder. Finally, choose the correct size for your spine insert, print it out, and slide it into the spine of your binder. You might also like to add some tabbed dividers to your binder to organize it a bit more. Easy peasy!
