I was compensated for this review. However, I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.

I have a confession…I am not a fan of History. I worried that my children were going to be doomed with me as a homeschooling mom because I found History to be dry and boring….and while I didn’t want to pass those feelings along to my children, I wasn’t sure how to present it in a way that was fun and exciting because frankly I never learned History in a way that was engaging.

That is why I was SO excited to discover Veritas Press’ self-paced History courses. Given the fact that the course isn’t taught by me, I knew there was still hope for my children!! But not only that, there are so many reasons to get excited about these amazing courses from Veritas Press.

Our experience with Self-Paced History courses from Veritas Press:

We had the amazing opportunity to review the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt course.

When we received our course sign in information, we were able to quickly sign in and jump right into the course. Note- both parents and students have accounts but the course itself is accessed only from the student account.

After you log in, you see the following screen. Simply click “Launch Lesson” and you’re ready to go. Easy peasy and even the youngest students can master getting into the correct lesson.

Throughout the course, your child will learn about 32 historical events and learns a fun song to be able to recite the events in order. I thought that my children might find this a bit silly since they are now entering that tween age, but I was so wrong. They LOVE the song and think it’s absolutely great that they can recite the events in order and Mom can’t!

Each lesson is humorous, factual, and engaging! They take students on virtual trips around the world: meeting famous historical characters, showing famous pieces of artwork, hearing excerpts from famous speeches.

Along with each lesson comes interactive activities. These vary from lesson to lesson but could be a map, matching game, puzzle, game, or a worksheet to check retention and reinforce information learned during lessons. Your student can always go back and review the lesson if he/she gets stuck.

Every fifth lesson, your child will be tested on what he/she has learned to that point. The exams are multiple choice. They also allow review of material from previous lessons. The tests are graded automatically and you may print the results if you wish.

Sounds great, right?! But what did my children think of the course?

Simply put….they LOVE it!! They actually argue over who gets the computer to do History first. When we were recently discussing curriculum choices for the coming year, both of my daughters specifically asked to continue with the self-paced courses from Veritas Press.

My final thoughts on self-paced courses from Veritas Press:

Where were theses amazing courses when I was growing up? I’m just now at 33 years old finding a love of History and it is solely because I am sitting next to my daughters as they complete their daily History lessons with VP, and I’m soaking up the information. The material is presented in a fun, and engaging manner and it truly makes History come to life. These courses take students on journeys to historical locations and meeting historical figures in a way that textbooks simply can’t touch. 1. My 7th grader is thoroughly enjoying Veritas Press Self-Paced Bible. I wanted to purchase the History, but we didn’t have the funds, and I think he’s getting a little old for it. Although he tells me he’d watch it through high school.

  2. I would also suggest Notgrass History curriculum. They are very good as well. Don’t know if you have looked into it or not but it is a less expensive option and does a great job incorporating bible and literature as well as just the history portion.
