5 Fun Ways to Celebrate the End of a Homeschool Year

The end is here! Be honest, there were times during these past nine months that you thought this day would never come, didn’t you? I know, because I did too.

You’ve worked hard.

They’ve worked hard.

And finally…finally…the school year is over!

It’s time to celebrate!!

Having an end of year celebration is something that we started very early in our homeschooling adventure. When we came to the end of our Kindergarten year, not only did my daughters want to celebrate, but so did I!

We made it through our fist year of homeschooling! Who wouldn’t want to celebrate?!

But it didn’t stop there.

When we finished our first grade year, my daughter asked me, “Mommy, are we going to celebrate now?”

My response? “You better believe we are!”

And now, that we are finishing our sixth year…well, that’s even MORE reason to celebrate. We’re all still breathing and {relatively} sane!

Finishing any year of homeschooling is a huge accomplishment. Whether it is your first year or your eighth year, both you and your child deserve some recognition and celebration!

So let’s do it!

Here are five ideas for creating a memorable end of year celebration:

  1. Take a family trip! I have many friends who plan their summer vacation right after the end of the school year. They view this trip as their end of year celebration. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it could simply be a day trip. When we finished first grade, we took our daughters to indoor water park for the day. They had a blast and still talk about that trip.
  2. Get family and friends involved! You could plan an end of year celebration at your home and have a small reception with your child’s favorite foods. You can display some of their work from the year and invite family and friends over to celebrate with you!
  3. If you have close friends who are also homeschoolers, you could plan a joint end of year celebration. It could be a BBQ, trip to the park, zoo trip, the options are endless. Kids will love having their friends to celebrate with and Mom and Dad will enjoy socializing with their friends. It’s a win-win situation!
  4. Start an end of the year tradition. Maybe a fun breakfast, picnic lunch or special dinner out at your favorite restaurant. Whatever it is, pick something fun that both your children and you will look forward to each year.
  5. Remember, you are celebrating YOU too, Mom. You’ve worked hard and made it through another year of homeschooling. As you plan your end of year celebration, don’t put too much work on yourself. Plan something that will be fun and stress-free.

A couple of years ago, we were blessed to celebrate the end of our homeschool year by taking an Impact Travel Cruise with Fathom Travel. We sailed to the Dominican Republic where we took part in on the ground volunteerism activities as well as soaked up some of that Dominican sun! It was a wonderful experience and definitely one that is hard to top!
