Our Christmas customs are such a conglomeration of traditions from so many different countries and heritages, that Christmas is the perfect time to study geography and world cultures in your homeschool.
- You can study maps, countries and continents, topography, directions, landmarks and famous sites etc.
- You can study language, and famous literature from those countries.
- You can study music, instruments and famous composer/performers from those countries.
- You can study the culture, family life, economy, educational system, demographics, government, etc.
- You can study their foods, art and traditions, and so much more!
Our family began studying Christmas around the world last year with a series of posts and free downloads that I wrote at Paradise Praises. We had a blast learning together about the legends and traditions of so many places, contacting friends who have lived there for their input, trying out recipes, making maps and doing crafts. We also found that it opened our eyes and hearts to other peoples who need to hear about the true meaning of Christmas.
This year we have expanded the study and turned it into a 199 page educational resource on 30 countries plus a special Christmas Carol section.
Christmas Around the World is an engaging study, in which you will travel the world to 30 different countries learning the history of their Christmas traditions, foods, music, and get to know their amazing people! This is a list of some of the resources included in the unit study guide:
- Internet links for further study
- A recommended book list
- Inclusion ideas for other subject areas such as Math, Art, Science, Home Ec. etc.
- Activity sheets
- Notebook pages
- And more!
Adaptable for Kindergarten through sixth grade, this reproducible book provides study resources that are appropriate to use with one child or with several of different ages, giving them a virtual tour of these 30 countries and a greater understanding of and burden for their people.
Countries include: Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Middle East (3 countries), Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Tailand and the U.S.A.
Whether you are decorating ships instead of trees in Greece, heading to the outdoor Christmas markets in Germany, or making and filling piñatas in Mexico, the study of Christmas around the World is sure to delight, entertain and educate your entire family.
Use it alone as a break from your normal homeschool routine, use it as a holiday supplement to your regular studies, or use it for holiday family time. The possibilities are endless.
