Many Christmas seasons ago, I was desperate to provide gift for my children for Christmas and attempted to create something that I could sell to neighbors and friends. Several times over the previous years, I had used gourmet apples as a fundraiser, and while browsing cupcake designs, the idea was born to create unique apple creations… Designer Gourmet Apples.

How to Make the Snowman Apple

Creating your snowman begins with a regular gourmet apple base. An apple coated in caramel, rolled in nuts, and covered in chocolate. However, since we are creating a snowman, you will want to use white chocolate candy coating instead of milk chocolate.

You will also need:

  • Bite-size peppermint patty candies
  • Bite-size candy bars, like Hershey Nuggets, Milky Way, or Snickers
  • Milk Chocolate Morsels
  • Mini Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • Candy Corn
  • Twizzlers candy

After you coat the apple in caramel and roll it in nuts, refrigerate for a few minutes or until the caramel is cold.

Next, cover the entire surface of the apple with white chocolate. Return to the refrigerator and chill completely.

Meanwhile, make the top hat by slicing a small triangular piece from a bite-sized peppermint patty to create an area to fit the craft stick. Using melted chocolate, apply a bite-size candy bar to the peppermint patty.

When ready, take the white chocolate covered apple from the refrigerator. Use melted white chocolate to apply the hat to the snowman’s head. Since the apple is cold, the hat will set quickly, but hold it in place for about five seconds.

In a similar fashion, you will use melted white chocolate to apply chocolate morsels for the eyes and candy corn for the nose. You may need to use sterilized tweezers to apply the mini morsels for the mouth.

The scarf can be difficult but I use a pull and peel Twizzler. If you choose to apply the scarf, roll the Twizzler into a circle and place it in a container where it is stored in a circular position prior to making the apple. Otherwise, the Twizzlers will try to pull away from the snowman and may require large amounts of melted chocolate to keep it secure.

Wrap with cellophane and finish with a festive ribbon to create a gift they will remember forever.
