We have two very active boys in our family, aged 6 and 5, respectively. Needless to say, they are nuts for just about anything related to building and construction. Our five year old actually wants to build and operate construction equipment right now. And he doesn’t mean toy trucks. He means the real ones. 🙂
While our boys are naturally enthusiastic about building with blocks and manipulatives, they are not so enthusiastic about sitting for a decent period of time and working quietly. But, since we’re homeschooling several ages at once, I really need them to sit down for a little bit so I can finish a lesson with their older sister.
So, I decided to make them a coloring pack with a construction theme. Now that we have this, I can actually get them to work for more than 10 minutes at a time! Today, I’m sharing this free construction coloring pack with you all!
This pack includes eight coloring pages with construction scenes, including workers and trucks. There are workmen driving cement trucks, workers with tools, and workmen laying bricks, so your little construction fan will be sure to find something he or she likes!
If you want to extend the coloring activity further, you can ask kids to cut the pictures out and glue them onto posterboard to create a construction scene. They can even draw scenery such as buildings, landscapes, and skies in the background or add in pictures from magazines to make a collage. For a sensory activity, sprinkle the bottom of the posterboard with glue and sprinkle on play sand!
