Keeping The Romance Alive While Homeschooling

Homeschooling moms are busy ladies!

We wear many hats: mom, teacher, maid, chef, nurse, and taxi driver just to name a few. Sometimes we get so focused on the many roles we fill that we neglect one of the most important: wife.

Keeping romance alive in your marriage while homeschooling isn’t an option- it’s a necessity.

But how?

How do you find time in a day that is already filled to the brim?

Answer: you make time.

Your marriage is the foundation of your family and if you don’t take the time to cultivate it, it will shrivel up and die. What happens to something with a weak foundation?

It falls.

Here are some tips for keeping the romance hot in your marriage, because let’s face it – lukewarm is no fun!

  • Schedule date nights. It can be a night on the town, a stay at home date night (find an awesome list of at home date night ideas here), an after the kids are in bed date, a lunch date, a coffee date, a sit in the car in the driveway date, but most importantly it is mommy and daddy alone time.
  • Keep communication lines open! Make time each day to really talk to your spouse. What’s going on in his life? Take an interest in what he’s doing.
  • Laugh together. This is so important. Laughter really is medicinal. It can totally turn your day around. Each and every day, find something to laugh with your spouse about.
  • Each day do at least one thing to show your husband that you love and appreciate him. Buy him a small gift, make him a cup of coffee, fix his favorite dinner, clean his car, the options are endless, but he will know that you went out of your way just for him.
  • Write him a love letter. Send a sweet email. Text a flirty message. Let him know that you are thinking of him.
  • Make time for sex! If at the end of the day, you have nothing left for your husband, then you need to remove something from your plate. Sex is an important, fun and meaningful part of marriage. Don’t neglect it.
  • Get creative! Last week, my husband and I had a romantic, candlelight dinner of Chinese take-out in our pajamas at our kitchen table {after the kids were in bed}. The total cost of our meal was $10.45, but it was fun! We laughed, we talked, we focused on each other and we enjoyed it, and you know what? Our marriage is stronger because of it.

  1. I LOVE that idea! Now, if my husband can come home from work before midnight…we might be able to do that pajama and chinese food idea!
