Valentine's Share the Love Week: Teaching Kids to Show Love Through Kindness

Valentine’s Day is approaching and love is in the air.

It seems like our society has transformed the message of love from the Biblical view of Agape- that deep unconditional love that breaks boundaries and moves mountains, to a material-based view that says “I love you because you buy me nice things.”

Love is truly the best gift we can give someone.

Love is what led Jesus to the cross for us, and we are expected to do “these things and greater”.

One of the core values of our church states, “love is a verb” and it really is. Love is something you do.

Love is serving others.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, beginning 2/10 and continuing through 2/16, my family and I will be putting love into action by observing a “share the love” week.

We are teaching our children how to love like Jesus calls us to love: by serving others. Each day we will be doing random acts of kindness: for those in our homes, our communities and throughout the world.

Would you like to join us in our Share the Love week? I’ve included a free printable with twenty suggestions of random acts of kindness that you can do with your children.

There is no better way to say, “I love you”, than to say, “Let me help you”.

  1. Great idea to teach our children (and practice it ourselves) how to love one another. I keep thinking of the part in John, where Jesus says that others will know who we are (His) by our love for one another.

Yes, Dorie! It seems like that is what we are missing in our society….a true love for one another. That may be the most important lesson we can teach our children.

  2. Awesome printable and ideas. Thanks for linking up with Kids in the Word at ThePelsers.com!

  3. What a wonderful idea for Valentine’s Day Heather!! I have pinned this onto my Valentine’s Day Board.
